That the supply of menstrual products at the University of Amsterdam are limited and are hard to find is not new within the UvA. ASVA and the CSR believe that menstrual product are a basic necessity, just like toilet paper. It should be available when people need it.The University of Amsterdam started a period product pilot in the beginning of the 2022/23 academic year with hardly any communication to the student and staff body. Their products are limited and inaccessible. They are found in vending machines for 15 cents (negotiated down by the CSR) and are hardly close to any of the bathrooms on the campuses. ASVA and the CSR believe that menstrual products are a basic necessity, just like toilet paper and that the UvA needs to add this to their annual facilities budget. It should be available when people need it.
Menstrual Equity means that everyone has access to menstrual products and related facilities, regardless of their financial situation or gender identity. It is time for the University of Amsterdam to recognize that menstrual products are a basic human right and need. Everyone has the right to free access to menstrual products.
Everyone has the right to free access to menstrual products.
We believe this petition is necessary to ensure that all students and staff at the University of Amsterdam have access to menstrual products. Everyone should be afforded the right to focus on education, without having to worry about the cost and availability of menstrual products. Of course, if you yourself don’t menstruate, you can still contribute to the cause!
Sign this petition if you are for Menstrual Equity and think the UvA should offer free menstrual products on all campuses with easy access!
