At its General Members’ Assembly last Wednesday, the ASVA Students’ Union approved its 82nd Board. Since 26 August, the new Board consists of the following members:
Joey de Haas – Chair (she/theirs)
Jasper Fico – Secretary (he/them)
Mano Wit – (part-time) Treasurer (he/him)
Joey is studying political science, Jasper is a Master’s student in political economy and Mano is studying cultural heritage. The first two are studying at the University of Amsterdam, whilst Mano is studying at the Reinwardt Academy.
The three board members got off to an enthusiastic start last week and are looking forward to this year! Our chair Joey says: “We are a small yet spirited board, ready to fight tooth and nail for all students in this wonderful city. We see that existing issues, such as housing and student well-being, are being made worse by austerity measures and dismantling of services that policymakers intend to implement. At the same time, we face the growing threat of militarization, which is becoming increasingly intertwined with the policies of our educational institutions, all at the expense of students. This year, we will once again do everything in our power to fight for our rights as students; we will do this not only as this incredible board but together with all the students of Amsterdam. We are not holding back and doing anything to expand our base and boost member engagement, enabling us to stand united and make a collective fist as a mass organization!”
