Last night, the GMA of the ASVA Student Union voted in the union’s new 81st board. The new chair is Sahand Mozdbar (He/him), a Philosophy student at the UvA. Other board members are Marijn Snel (He/him) as vice-chair, Nina Cortés Niehe (She/her) as secretary, Ayrton Anemaet (Any/all) as Treasurer, Miko Kok (They/them) as general board member and Rania Ezzimousa (She/her) as general board member. Marijn is studying Sociology, Nina is studying Religious Studies & Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology and Miko is studying Pyschology. These three are studying at the UvA. Ayrton is studying ICT and Rania is studying Public Administration, both at the HvA.
The new board has been approved, but will only start work from 28 August. Sahand, the incoming chairman: “I can hardly imagine a more fun and combative incoming board. With the cabinet that has just fallen and all the cuts that may or may not be implemented, the coming year will be a crucial year for the student struggle. I am therefore confident that everyone in the new board is incredibly motivated and passionate, and that together with as many students as possible we can make a collective fist in these uncertain times. We will show that the Amsterdam student will not simply acquiesce to policies that go against their interests, but will fight, together with the union, for fair education and housing!”
